Who it is not for
I read this list first with every person I talk to, before I say a word about results. If you're on it, the answer is no or not yet, and I'll help you with the other four levers instead.
Medical reasons a clinician will say no
- Pregnant, planning to become pregnant in the next few months, or breastfeeding
- A personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2
- A history of pancreatitis
- Type 1 diabetes, or diabetes managed with insulin or certain other medications, unless your own doctor is directing it
- Severe digestive conditions, including slowed stomach emptying
- A current or past eating disorder
- Under 18
Reasons I will say no
- You want the result without changing how you eat, move, or sleep. This would make you smaller and weaker, and I won't help with that.
- You want a short run before an event and then back to normal. The regain data is on the Science page.
- You can't sustain the cost. Stopping because you ran out of money is the worst version of stopping.
- You haven't told your own doctor. I won't point you anywhere until you have.
Who it's likely for
- Twenty or more pounds to lose and a history of losing it and regaining it
- A body mass index in the range the approved medications are indicated for, or a lower one with a weight-related condition, which your doctor can confirm
- Willing to lift, eat protein, and protect sleep from the first week
- Thinking in years, not weeks
Not sure which list you're on? That is exactly what the fit conversation is for. Is this a fit for me?
